THE RAW KITCHEN
Here is some basic information to get you and your kitchen ready for your raw food diet.
A Raw Foodies Bet
Friends
High Speed Blender-This is
probably the single most used appliance. These can cost anywhere from $20 to
$500. You get what you pay for. I suggest a Blendtec or a Vitamix. You can get
these used or refurbished for between $100 and $200.
Juicer-These can also range
from $20-$2,000. There are two different kinds, masticating and centrifugal.
Masticating usually gets the most juice out and creates the driest pulp. I
suggest purchasing a Green Star or a Champion Juicer. These can be found used
on-line for around $100.
Food Processor-These really
differ in terms of durability and horsepower. Kitchenaid, Cuisinart and Oster
make some durable high-power models. Once again, you get what you pay for.
Dehydrator-These can cost you
anywhere from $50 to $5000. For about 6 years, I used an inexpensive Nesco
brand Dehydrator that I bought at Farm and Fleet for $60.00. I suggest the
Excalibur if you can afford it. Which ever dehydrator you purchase, make sure
that it has a temperature gauge on it. I’ve measured the temperature of many
inexpensive dehydrators that don’t have temperature gauges on them and they
always heat up to 145 degrees or higher.

Tips to save money
while equipping your raw kitchen:
-Look for sales and rebate coupons.
-Look for refurbished items.
-Shop on Ebay-Great for cheap used and new items.
-Look at classifieds on sites such as Kijiji and Craig’s
list.
-Browse through garage sales and thrift stores- You’ll be
amazed at the cool stuff you’ll find for amazingly cheap.
-Shop in March! Many people purchase juicers and blenders
around the new year to help fulfill their new years resolution to become
healthier and skinnier. By
March, they’ve usually abandoned this resolution and are
selling their slightly(if at all) used kitchen appliances for a fraction of
what they paid for it.
